Disputes with Builders
Independent Evidence on Defective and Unfinished Work
When building work goes wrong, the argument usually comes down to three questions: is the work defective, what has actually been done, and what will it cost to put right. We answer all three in a report both sides can test.
What We Look At
We inspect the work against the contract, drawings and specification, the Building Regulations and good practice, and we value what has been done against what has been paid.
Defective work. We record each defect with photographs, explain the cause, and say whether it breaches the contract and, for homeowners, whether it falls short of the reasonable care and skill the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires.
Overcharging and the final account. We value the work actually carried out, including variations and extras, so you know whether the final account is fair before you pay it or dispute it.
Unfinished work. If a builder has walked off site, we record the state of the job, schedule what remains and what needs redoing, and price it so another contractor can quote against the same scope.

Resolving the Dispute
Most builder disputes settle once both sides see the same objective evidence. If they do not, our report is written to stand up in adjudication, mediation or the County Court, including the small claims track.
We act for homeowners, landlords and developers, and we are independent of the builder and of anyone quoting for the remedial work.
Knowing the Process from the Inside
Our director has run his own cases in the County Court, the High Court and the First-tier Tribunal as a litigant in person, so he knows disclosure, witness statements and hearings from the inside. We aim to settle disputes on objective evidence before a hearing, and prepare properly for one if it comes to that.
As well as expert evidence, we can help with structural inspections and party wall disputes.
